Today, we remember and honor the Shahadat of Hazrat Muslim ibn Aqeel, a noble companion and cousin of Imam Hussain (AS). Hazrat Muslim played a significant role in the events leading up to the tragic Battle of Karbala.
During the time of Yazid’s oppressive rule, Imam Hussain (AS) received numerous letters from the people of Kufa, expressing their desire for his leadership and promising their support. To assess the situation and gather information, Imam Hussain (AS) sent Hazrat Muslim ibn Aqeel as his emissary to Kufa.
Hazrat Muslim arrived in Kufa to a warm welcome from the supporters of Imam Hussain (AS). He stayed at the house of Mukhtar bin Abu Ubaidah, where he received immense love and loyalty from the people. Thousands pledged their allegiance to him, hoping to stand alongside Imam Hussain (AS) in his struggle against injustice and tyranny.
However, the situation quickly took a turn for the worse when Yazid’s governor, Ubaidullah ibn Ziyad, arrived in Kufa. Ubaidullah unleashed a campaign of intimidation and terror, successfully turning many of the people against Hazrat Muslim. The same people who had initially pledged their allegiance were now fearful of the consequences and abandoned him.
Isolated and surrounded by enemies, Hazrat Muslim fought valiantly, refusing to give in to oppression. Eventually, he was captured and brought before Ubaidullah ibn Ziyad, who ordered his immediate execution. Hazrat Muslim faced his martyrdom with unwavering faith and courage, his devotion to Imam Hussain (AS) and the cause of justice remaining unshaken until his last breath.
The Shahadat of Hazrat Muslim ibn Aqeel serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of truth and justice. His unwavering loyalty and unwavering commitment to the principles of Islam continue to inspire millions around the world.
