Today marks just the beginning of one of the most significant and important journeys of Islam. The 8th of Dhul Hijjah is when Imam Hussain (AS), his family, and his companions began their pilgrimage from Mecca to Karbala. Every part of their journey held significance. In Zuhasm for example, Imam Hussain (AS) was accosted by Hurr’s army. Upon seeing that his men were thirsty, Imam Hussain (AS) commanded his men to give them some of their water. Afterwards, Imam Hussain (AS) also told Hurr about the letter from Kufa. He (AS) explained how if he was no longer essential then he would stop and turn back. But Hurr did not let the Imam (AS) return to Kufa or Mecca. So Imam Hussain (AS) along with his family and companions continued on their course to Karbala.
